International Relations & Development Internship
Program Description
As an IRD intern, you must be dedicated to improving resilient development, social well-being, food security, and environmental health for communities globally. IRD interns must be committed to working in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team. Moreover, IRD interns will need to be self-driven and highly motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit and special interest in connecting private sector motivation with public good. Furthermore, this kind of intern will be introduced to projects that are designed to accelerate the growth one has in understanding geopolitical relations between nation-states as well as specific details that pertain to each country. These projects you will be a part of will also develop your skills in analyzing how a country sustains economic growth with support for their respective environment.
Throughout your time with us at She Grows It, you will be introduced to research and analytical techniques that will give you the necessary tools you need to be effective in your career path. Specifically, IRD interns will research topics that deal with countries in Western Africa. These topics can all be extremely varied, but the overarching goal is to further understand these countries with lexicons that are based in technology, history, sustainability, economy, and their respective ecosystems. After the countries have thoroughly been researched, each intern will begin an analysis process. In brief, the analysis process is used to determine which topics are of relevance for each country's profile in order to better serve them with consultancy.

In explanation, we use tools that empower and educate our interns. For instance, we hold professional seminars and lectures that aim to teach methods of framework, introduce new perspectives and also challenge perspectives. Intern job development for practical use in today's ever changing world is our number one priority. We will provide the necessary research and analysis mechanisms to support your academic career, but as an intern with SGI, you will also receive training that will build your effectiveness as a professional in the international development, affairs, and relations sector of the world.
Eligibility Criteria
Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of an accredited university; will provide internship credit, if applicable.
Familiar with web-based research programs, such as Google, Google Scholar, J-Stor.
Familiar with spreadsheet programs, such as Excel, Google Spreadsheet.
Ability to work independently and exercise creativity.
Strong writing and oral skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Benefits and Compensation
Internships are unpaid. However, we work to prepare our interns for the next step in their career through real-industry experience, mentorship, industry exposure and networking, opportunities to attend events in Washington and abroad, and letters of recommendation/reference.
